Tourists Wait to Board Cruise Ship

Tourists wait to board the cruise ship after a rainy afternoon in Ketchikan.  Up to six cruise ships arrive in one day, adding upwards of 9,000 people to the small town of Ketchikan which has a population of 17,000.  Jewelry stores dominate the Front Street, most of which are owned by the cruise ships.  There are about 68 shops in town all vying for tourist dollars with diamonds and jewels,  Most close in the winter enabling their Pakistani workers to take business south.
