Caribou and Fuel Tanks

Back to Search Results

Caribou pass by a fuel tank at a now unmanned Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line radar station. Drums date back to a campsite for oil and gas exploration, closed in 1983. Lonely is situated 20 feet above sea level on a low lying land mass that extends from the Alaskan mainland between Smith Bay and Harrison Bay. Two 65,000 gallon diesel oil tanks sit behind a runway.
