Novices stop and smell flowers in a garden during a break from their prayers and work at Santa Catalina Convent in Peru. Built in 1580 and enlarged in the 17th century, now 30 cloistered nuns live in privacy in the convent. Five are novicias who study for five years to become a nun. The youngest nun is 15 and the oldest is 98. <br />

Novicias play with a soccer ball and sing together in the courtyard and the garden. Activities help the young girls adjust to the cloistered life.
