Dramatic Storm Light on Dune Grasses

Back to Search Results

Sand dunes and fragile dune grasses glow from dramatic, late afternoon light before a storm hits Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore. Two Manitou islands and 31.5 miles of protected shoreline on Lake Michigan in the northwest section of Michigan's lower peninsula bear dunes, forests and inland lakes. The dunes are fed by sands from wind-eroded headlands and stretch in a shifting pattern across great plateaus.
