H and L Salvage buys timber (what is left after a company clear cuts and leaves), and they make red cedar shakes and cut boards.  Keith and Desiree Landers and daughter Carmen live beside the mill on Goose Creek.  Desirsee cuts shingles--probably the only woman to do this.  Nathan Kinsman and Jake Howell split cedar for shakes.  Jack and Don Hays (red) separate wood that Keith cuts with his saw..Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island has a population of 495.  It was founded as a logging camp in the '60s.  Much of its economy is based on the timber industry, but today they are more dependent on sport fishing.  ..
