Boat Ride on Boiling Waters in Yellowstone

Ranger Rick Hutchinson takes this specially built boat out onto boiling water in Grand Prismatic Geyser. The geyser is 71 degrees centigrade. "It'll take the skin off a chicken", says Hutchinson. Rick is in charge of monitoring all geothermal activity in the park. He uses this boat to clean trash out of the geothermal features and to do scientific work. Unfortunately Rick was killed in the back country while working. He was memorialized in a brief story in National Geographic about how many writers and photographers he had helped over the decades..Yellowstone is the nations first National Park, it spans three states and holds 70% of the world's geothermal activity.
