BLM's Palomino Valley in Nevada Desert

Nearly 900 wild horses brought in from the Jackson Mountains are processed at Palomino Valley holding facility. The Bureau of Land Management oversees horses at the large holding facility. Horses that are sorted into mares and foals, stallions and then given vaccinations and a freeze brand. The horses are given grasses and eventually alfalfa to eat...but since many were starving when they arrived, the food is difficult for them to digest. Many would have died if left on the land over winter. But some of the horses contracted lung diseases at the facility and are given antibiotics.
