Native Tlinget Picking Berries

Roby and John Littlefield and Cassie boat to Dog Point Fish Camp to spend the day picking gray currants. All Sitka residents have subsistence rights. The camp has been part of John's Tlingit heritage for generations--they have 160 acres of private land. They have run a educational camp for youth for 18 years teaching survival and traditional ways of life. Standed when the boat drifted away from shore they had a picnic on the beach and waited for help from a neighbor. They have the only private land in the on waterfront (two other private owners have land above) and are surrounded by state and federal land in the Tongass Forest.
