Therman Caudill carries a bucket to gather apples from the last garden he will harvest on his land. He sold his home after a long tired fight with Arch Coal. The family fought the coal company in court to protect their ancestral home which stood in the way of plans to expand a the mine. Caudill, a retired teacher said, said it took only took the mining companies 125 years to force the Caudills out of Mud River--but they finally did it.
